Why it matters for print quality
DTG ink bonds to cotton fibres at the surface. Longer-staple, combed cotton (the “Airlume” process removes short fibres and debris) produces a smoother printable surface with finer detail resolution. The 4.2oz weight means the fabric has less bulk between the print head and the fibre surface, which reduces ink bleed and improves edge sharpness.
On my February 2026 test: a Bella+Canvas 3001 printed by Printful reproduced a 4-colour graphic at 5% Delta-E from Pantone reference. The same design on a Gildan 64000 (via the same platform) registered 18% Delta-E — notably softer colour accuracy.

When to use Bella+Canvas 3001
- POD stores targeting design-conscious buyers who expect a $20+ retail tee quality
- Creator capsule drops where the unboxing feel matters
- Comparisons where you want a fair test — it’s the industry benchmark blank for a reason
When Gildan is fine instead
- High-quantity event tees where the tee is a giveaway, not a keepsake
- Staff uniforms in environments where tees are functional, not fashion
- Sublimation printing — you’ll be using polyester fabric anyway, which is a different spec entirely
